Tubular Centrifuge Principle And Application

Tubular centrifuge is a high-speed sedimentation centrifuge. Its core component is a slender, high-speed rotating tubular drum that generates immense centrifugal force. It is primarily used to separate fine particles or liquid phases with very small density differences.

I. Structure

High-speed drum: Slender hollow tube, core separation component

Motor and transmission: Belt/direct drive, extremely high speed

Feeding system: Bottom inlet

Discharge port: Top clear liquid outlet, heavy phase side outlet

Base, casing, brake

II. Working Principle

1. The liquid enters the high-speed rotating drum from the bottom.

2. Under strong centrifugal force, the liquid separates into layers according to density:

- Heavy phase (solid particles, impurities, water) → adheres to the tube wall

- Light phase (oil, clear liquid) → center of the tube

3. The light phase overflows from the top, while the heavy phase/sludge remains on the tube wall or is discharged from the side outlet.

4. It is a centrifugal sedimentation process, without filter cloth, suitable for ultrafine and difficult-to-filter materials.

GQ type (Clarifying type): Solid particles settle on the drum wall, and the clear liquid is discharged from the top.

GF type (Separation type): Light and heavy liquid phases flow out from different outlets, while solids are intermittently removed.

III. Features

Tubular centrifuges are particularly suitable for processing materials with low solids content (typically <2%), fine particles, high viscosity, or very small density differences between the two phases.

Extremely high separation factor, excellent clarification/separation effect

Suitable for trace solids, emulsions, and oil-water separation

Primarily intermittent type, medium throughput

Significantly advantageous for materials with high viscosity and fine particles

IV. Typical Applications

1. Oils & Essential Oils

Plant essential oil clarification: rose, jasmine, agarwood, frankincense, etc.

Oil-water separation: extraction oil/aqueous phase demulsification separation

Walnut oil, camellia oil, linseed oil residue removal, gum removal, and water removal

2. Pharmaceuticals/Traditional Chinese Medicine

Clarification of traditional Chinese medicine extracts, removal of medicinal residue

Pretreatment before fine filtration of oral liquids and injections

3. Food

Removal of fruit pulp and fine residue from fruit juices and beverages

Removal and dehydration of animal oils and fish oils

4. Chemicals/Biology

Bacterial cell separation, protein separation

Washing and concentration of nano-scale powders
